Villa UH1 by RB Arkitektur

Called Villa UH1, The house design, as much building as landscape, is located in Stockholm, Sweden. From the beginning RB Arkitektur sought to make the building as much a natural part of the site as possible. Villa UH1 is conceived as part of the landscape climbing gently up a hilly terrain. An inner courtyard allows for privacy as well as for maximum daylight. The roof is covered with green moss, making the building integrate with the surrounding nature as the boundaries between construction and landscape dissolve.

The site of Villa UH1 is a soft natural slope in a residential area. While laying out the different functions of the house according to the street, neighbouring houses and the orientation of the sun, they discovered quite quickly that by creating a patio, the house would get a terrace facing the evening sun while at the same time being shut off from people’s view.

In order to emphasize the landscaped aspect of the house, they let the roof literally grow out of the ground and become covered by sedum plants, thus eliminating the border between building and landscape.
Geothermal energy is harnessed by a heat pump to supply an under-floor heating system throughout the house.
